"Project Syndicate" sounds like a sophisticated international crime ring, but it's actually a network of newspapers from all over the world for which a large number of researchers and scholars like me periodically write opinion pieces. I have recently been anointed a "thought leader" for PS, which means I shall be writing a monthly oped on a regular basis. Other "thought leaders" include my Harvard colleagues Joe Nye and Ken Rogoff, along with Brad DeLong.
My first oped is not up on the PS site yet, but has been making its way around various newspapers. You can read it here from Business Standard in India. It combines two of my favorite topics: soccer and globalization.
And by the way, there is an egregious error in the piece--but it is one that makes me extremely happy. See if you can spot it.
The error is that Arsenal aren't currently top of the league. They'll be back there soon though, maybe on 19th April.

Seeing "footballers" must have made you happy!

that was a real howler. Fourth last paragraph, first sentence. But why does it make you extremely happy? Is Turkey -Egypt one of football's great rivalries?

"Indeed, all the English players for the four English clubs that recently advanced to the final 8 of the UEFA Champions’ League would hardly be enough to field a single team."
I think if you look at ManU, Chelsea and Liverpool, you could come up with a decent English team. Arsenal is another story.

In 1980s, in Italy, experts and trainers were sure that African Football will rule the world.
But that don't happened.
Why?
Some fine critics sustained that in general african football players have regressed once they have joned european teams.
Probably because the european philosophy of football - a compromise with nordic attacking and defensive latin schemes - is in sharp contrast with african culture and feelings.
In Italy, were I live, I can see every week many talented african player constrained in defensivist schemes, playing in crowded pieces of field.
With "globalization" of football, Africa can't explored your own way to play the game.
Now, not only African national team are marginalized, but also native african player in Europe have a marginal role. The best colored players in Europe are not born in Africa but in Europe, where they were trained.
I think that when we are speaking about globalization we should keep in mind non only the "brain drain" or the "leg drain", but also the erosion of diversity in istitutional and cultural approach to problems.

It’s a good idea to follow the text visually as you listen to the cassette the first few
times. As you get a little bit familiar with the target material, divorce the two. Take the
cassette and the tape player with you. Listen even when you can’t follow the written text.
Read the text even when you can’t listen. You’ll find the two excellent reinforcers for
each other.
If your cassette course is flat single rep or flat double rep, keep listening over and
over and try to capture as many words and phrases as you can.

Many places and centers offer business and trade promotions to both buyers and supplier. What about the differences in skill intensities across industries? The job losses in the relatively unskilled-labor intensive battery industry should have little effect on the relatively skilled-labor intensive machinery
